Learning Tennis

I just ordered my tennis racket and I’m excited to learn! I’m a bit concerned about learning it properly. It would be better if I had some instruction, because I know how difficult it can be to unlearn bad habits. Nevertheless, I will try my best to learn on my own from whatever videos I can find on the internet.

I started off by just watching a lot of tennis matches. Agassi, Sampras, Federer, Nadal. These guys are amazing tennis players. I particularly enjoyed Nadal vs Verdasco in the 2009 Australian Open. What a match! Came down to a last shot in the 5th set. Really incredible stuff. Nadal moves unbelievably – his defense is remarkable. He gets to every ball, even the ones I would think he has zero chance at reaching.

There seems to be a lot of different types of tennis rackets. The handle width and string type and frame material. As a total beginner, I think it really won’t matter much. I will be happy to hit the ball without a swing-and-miss.

I’ll update this blog with whatever I learn about tennis and my progress with the game.
